"The Coffin Is Too Big For The Hole" written by Kuo Pao Kun makes American debut.

Playwright Kuo Pao Kun was born in Hebei, China in 1939 and at ten moved to Singapore where he later became one of the of the most important figures in the arts there.

In the 1970's he wrote epic-style plays that expounded on the social dislocations brought on by foreign direct investment and urban redevelopment in an increasingly corporate Singapore.

In 1976, he was arrested during a massive anti-leftist drive.

Upon release in 1980, he immediately returned to the stage and began writing a series of one-man theatre monologues inspired by the Chinese oral storytelling tradition. The Coffin Is Too Big For The Hole (1985) is a seminal piece.

One Kind Theatre's Artistic Director Alec Tok brought this play to America and performed it in New Haven and San Francisco.
